One more Time

I know I am not being very original at this time, but I want you all to know I am still here and still formulating ideas, I just have writers block every time I sit down to type out my thoughts. Seems to happen a lot these days. So one more time, one of my favorites from Mr. Ramirez

Precious

Precious releases into theaters November in LA and New York, starring a number of pop stars and unknowns. Karin Badt of the Huffington Post gives a brief synopsis;
Raped by her father, abused by her mother, and pregnant for the second time, l6-year-old African-American Precious, played with intensity by debut actress Gabourey Sidibe, does not seem to have much of a shot at happiness. Her fantasy, as an obese introverted teenager, to hook up with the handsome stud Nurse John, played by glamour rocker Lenny Kravitz, strikes one as so far-fetched, it is humorous.

This gritty tale appears to be anything but funny, check out the trailer , a must see for all who claim to love the lost, abused and downtrodden, in other words, the human race.

Mom

There is an old saying, "behind every strong man is a strong woman". In my house that was not true, in my house it was "alongside a strong man strides a strong woman." My mother, Laura Padilla Orozco Hodges is a strong woman. Well, strong doesn't really do her justice. Proverbs 31 describes a Godly woman, verse 28 says, "Her children rise up and bless her, . . ." My mom is a wise woman who has shown love and mercy my whole life. At times when I have struggled she has shown wisdom and grace. Mom has given me Godly advice and wisdom at important moments in my marriage and on into fatherhood. I am proud to speak of my mother as she has been proud of me as a son. Mom, even though you are 1000 miles away I still take what you have taught me and my children are blessed because of you. I love you!

Sports Ironies

Ironic that a day after 1 sports hero falls flat on his face another sports hero returns from an injury and picks up where he left off. Trying to rebuild his tarnished reputation. The only difference I see with A-Rod and Manny is a matter of timing. Manny got caught now, A-Rod, we are discovering was using back a few years ago, and not now, that we know. Either way they are both cheaters and will be forever tainted as such. Is there anything sacred anymore in sports? What next, Tiger using juiced balls? Maybe sports should come with an asterix, "For entertainment only".

I'm back

So much has occurred in the past 4 months that I don't think I can even begin to explain my absence. To my adoring fans . . .sorry, too much, to the folks who occasionally read my stuff, sorry. Here is all the past I will dwell on. Tristan Andrew, born to us in March on the 21st, missed the ides by 6 days for those history buffs. He is awesome! the girls adore him. Now, looking forward . . . .coming soon: A review of Star Trek (one of the best movies I have seen in 10 years), Wolverine (not one of the best movies I have seen ever, but entertaining . . . sort of,) some politics, emphasis on some, Social outrage and theological blundering. I am pumped .. . . . . . see you soon!
